Education plays a huge role in the development of any musician, everybody has been taught in some way – some people take a formal approach by receiving regular piano lessons and having a rigorous practice schedule, some will attend workshops or jam sessions, and some will learn indirectly from listening to others play.
All of these methods can be and have been successful for many. How successful depends on one thing – practice. No matter how good a teacher you have, how many books you read or how many workshops you attend, it will be how you practice that will really make a difference. A good teacher is there to act as a guide through this process.
Piano Lessons and Workshops
Based in Richmond and Kingston, South West London, Ben Gilbert offers individual piano lessons in Classical, Jazz and other contemporary styles of Piano. These lessons will develop skills in Performance, Improvisation, Music Theory, Sightreading and Harmony.
Piano lessons can prepare students for Graded exams (ABRSM, Trinity, Rockschool) up to and including Grade 8 as well as ways into further and higher education. Previous students have gone on to study music at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Trinity Laban Conservatiore and <a ” href=”http://www.lcm.ac.uk/” target=”_blank”>Leeds College of Music.
Workshops give groups of students a chance to learn about jazz and improvisation methods and to play music with other like minded musicians – amateur and professional alike. These workshops can be one-off bespoke sessions or part of a programme of events.
